I am a cigarette smoker. I have been for over 15 years. I hate it most days, but at the same time I have never been able to give it up more than a couple of years at a time. When E-cigs hit the stores I was one of the first to see what they were all about. I have been trying to figure out for the last few years whether smoking e-cigs was a safer alternative to smoking cigarettes. I have to admit that I stopped trying to quit and move to e-cigs because of all the bad press they were getting. I think maybe that is what many people have done and I am afraid it is probably a bad move. We know that almost everything is safer than regular smoking.
It seems that instead of acknowledging that E-cigs are the safer choice public health officials are finding everything wrong with e-cigs…..WHY?
The logic of harm reduction is that you want to choose the least harmful or the lesser of two evils. They don’t have enough data to say E-cigs are safe but that should not be the question—-ARE THEY SAFER THAN Regular cigarettes…..They have to be! By not sharing this message people are turning away from E-cigs and continuing to smoke regular cigarettes. Including myself…..
