Private Prisons Need Bodies to Fill Spots, They do not Care about Whats Right, Their Primary Role is to Make Money NOT to Rehabilitate. How can a Money Making Entity whose Primary Goal is to Make A Profit Perform the Awesome Task of Running a Prison?

Discussions about private prisons make me terrified. I have spent a little time in jail, none in our great American prison system. My partner on the other hand, did spend three years in prison for his first nonviolent offense. He was and is no danger to society at all,yet he spent more time in prison than people who have committed far greater offenses. He served time on a mandatory minimum for trafficking cocaine. I have watched rapist and child molestors serve less time –over and over again.
The US has more people in prison than any other country on earth. THAT IS CRAZY. Most of the people in the prisons are not violent. We are thought to have around 2.2 million people locked up in our local prisons and jails. Countries with far greater populations have less people in prison than we do.
KNOW this, the CCA sent letter to 48 states offering to operate state prisons if the states signed a 20 year contract which guaranteed 90% occupancy rates throughout the term. Pretty unbelievable. Seems like the states would then have a reason to incarcerate, incarcerate, incarcerate because the state would be fined if they allowed the prison to have less than 90% occupancy.
Arizona, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Virginia are locked in contracts with the highest occupancy guarantee requirements, with all quotas requiring between 95% and 100% occupancy. (Alternet)
In Colorado tax payers have been harnessed with the fines equaling over 2 million dollars for fines related to occupancy rates covering three for profit prisons. So, if the prisons are not full your tax money pays the corporation. Pretty FUCKED UP huh????
How can we be okay with this? Please read more about private prisons. This administration is undoing all of the hard work that president OBAMA put in to ensuring the end of private prisons. A practice we know is terrible, immoral and just fucking wrong.
